Last updated October 3, 2026. This is the plain-words version of how Hatters Daily treats your information.
The short version
There are no accounts and no passwords. We do not sell your information, and we do not run advertising trackers or analytics on this site. If you never sign up for the newsletter, we do not ask for or keep your name or email.
What stays on your own device
Your game progress, best scores, daily puzzle results, light or dark choice, bin zone, the stamps on your Quest board and whether you have seen the welcome box are saved in your browser on your device. They never reach us. Clearing your browser's site data removes them. If you close a sponsored message, your browser remembers that only until you close the tab.
Weather, air quality and river readings
Your browser asks Environment and Climate Change Canada's servers for these directly, so that government service can see your internet address the same way any website you visit can. We do not receive or store that request.
Hosting
Like any website, the company that hosts the site keeps standard server records (such as your internet address and the page you asked for) for security and to keep the site running. We do not use those records to identify you.
The daily email
The newsletter is optional and is only switched on when you type your email into the signup form and confirm it. We use it only to send you the daily email. Our email provider, MailerLite, handles the list and every email carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately. You can also write to us and we will remove you. We never add you to the list because you played a game or used the directory. Only people who sign up get emails.
Links to other sites
Business websites, the City of Medicine Hat and other links open in a new tab and have their own privacy practices. Links to sponsors are marked as sponsored.
